It's almost the end of the 2000s (aren't you glad it's over?), and that means it's time for voracious media mavens like me to run down their favorite things of the past. I've made top tens for movies, music, and books, without commentary (what could I add that hasn't already been said?). Feel free to add a suggestion or post your lists in the comments.

I spent most of 2009 being pretty unimpressed with new music. Part of that is me getting older and more set in my ways, I'm sure. But I really think the crop of new releases this year was weaker than the last several. That said, I managed to find a few stand-outs.

I'm think I'm starting to understand some of this outcry against the changes to Facebook's privacy settings. The problem here is that Facebook has lulled the "average user" into feeling safe putting private information out on the web.

The reality is as soon as you share private data with even one other person, it isn't private anymore: it's a secret. And if I learned anything long ago in high school, it was that secrets have a way of surfacing despite all your best efforts to keep them hidden. Just ask Tiger Woods.
